Generating a renaissance of rural self sufficiency and connecting practical skills with everyday life

Modeled in the fashion of a traditional "folk school", CedarRoot was formed to preserve and restore the skills, traditions and arts of rural living on the Salish sea. The school is committed to rebuilding skills that support a deep sense of place and ecology. Our campus “lives in” the beauty and traditions of the Pacific Northwest..a harmony of maritime, ancient forests and agriculture. The classrooms are everywhere: from beaches in the Straits of Juan de Fuca to benches in the workshop of a master woodworker or blacksmith. The courses can range from hands-on classes in workshops to hiking excursions in the Olympic mountains.
Join us in learning skills based on "hand to hand" instruction that is practical, experiential and inspiring. Our courses and the talented instructors reflect our mission to preserve and restore the skills, traditions and arts of rural living.
